Maryland’s Hand-held Cell Phone Law

Maryland Cell Phone LawMaryland’s new law banning the use of hand-held cell phones and other mobile devices while driving goes into effect on October 1, 2010. Are you ready?  Be prepared to either abstain from using the cell phone at all while driving, or to make use of a hands-free device such as a bluetooth headset or speaker-phone system.

According to the State Highway Administration’s press release “Make Your Vehicle a No Phone Zone“:

The law, also known as the Delegate John Arnick Electronic Communications Traffic Safety Act, prohibits drivers in Maryland from using a mobile phone without a hands free device while operating a motor vehicle on a street or highway.  Law enforcement officers will issue tickets to violators with fines up to $100 and one point.  If the violator causes a crash, he or she may receive three points.

Baltimore County Public Safety Day

Looking for some good family fun this weekend? The Baltimore County Police Community Relations Council will be holding its 6th Annual Public Safety Day this coming Saturday, September 11. The event is scheduled to take place from 10am to 2pm at the Hunt Valley Towne Centre. Entry is free.

There will be various police, fire, and safety demonstrations throughout the day, as well as special activities just for the kids. According to the official website, the fun and educational activities will include the following:

  • Police dogs in action
  • Tactical demonstrations
  • Police Marine and Aviation displays
  • Put-Out-A-Fire demonstration
  • Antique police and fire cars
  • Smoke House Fire display
  • Firefighters Rappelling

Labor Day Weekend
